The Crazy In Love hitmaker is taking to the stage in Kuala Lumpur in October (09) as part of her I Am… world tour.
The star axed a 2007 gig in the country following protest threats by Malaysia’s opposition Islamic party, because of strict laws which require female performers to cover up from the shoulders to knees with no cleavage showing.
Critics have already voiced their outrage at the upcoming show, and are planning to protest to the government over the scheduled gig.
Sabki Yusof, youth vice head of the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party, says, “We are not against entertainment as long as it is within the framework of our culture and our religion. We are against Western sexy performances. We don’t think our people need that.”
Avril Lavigne and Gwen Stefani have performed in Malaysia under similar protest threats by conservative Muslims and were forced to cover up for their concerts.
